Dare #46

Hi everyone - Donna here! In my family it's 'birthday season'! Some of the other Dare team members & I were discussing how we seem to put off scrapping those all important birthday layouts! Anyone else like that?

Why is that? I guess because with digital cameras we take soooo many photos and they tend to be 'busy' photos - lots going on in them and often such a variety of events for one birthday.

And so, our dare this week is to scrap a birthday layout - single or double and it must contain 5 or more photos!

So far, the layouts from the team are very varied - lots of different ideas. We can't wait to see yours.

There's a great prize up for grabs - some gorgeous new product generously donated by Scrapbook Outlet. Thanks so much Andrea!

Here's a fabulous layout from our guest designer this week - Lynda Bagnall. What I love about this layout is that Lynda has let the photos tell the story - very neatly stitched for definition.

I was guilty of not scrapping my son's 1st birthday photos! He turns 11 in a couple of months!! There was so much to his first birthday that I've broken it down into separate layouts. This one of the day prior, and there will be another double of the actual party. That suddenly made the task a lot easier.

I hope you enjoy the challenge and get some of those birthday photos scrapped at last! Sharon's

This layout is as much about my perpspective of birthdays as it is about Amada's 6th birthday. Journaling reads "Okay so right from the start we (as in Ricky and I) said no big parties every year for you and Simon. Just the big milestones like 1, 5, 10, etc. I don’t mean not celebrate but just keep it quiet with Grandparents and a friend or two. And every year somehow I go back on it. I cant quite bring myself to not letting you have a party. This year we had a bbq with family and friends the day before your actual party. You even had a birthday cake plus birthday cupcakes! And then on the day you woke to the usual tradition of your presents on the table, decorated with tinsel and candles. After school you had 4 friends back for afternoon tea and a little bit of scrapbooking. That’s not really a party? Is it? I think I need to stop kidding myself and hey birthdays are made for celebrating BIG! And you seemed to enjoy your 6th birthday parties!"

Winner Dare number 45 - Sketch

I so so so loved looking at all the sketches this evening. What a variety of takes on a single sketch. You girls outdid yourselves!
But as the story goes, there are only a couple of winners.
From the draw Beverley Cunninghams name was drawn out. Congrats Beverley! You are the lucky winner of some gorgeous Queen & Co products. Can you please email me and I'll get your prize in the mail asap (or if you're going to Scrapcamp, let me know and I'll bring it with me!).
As for choosing my fav....hmmmmmm....I loved them all. Special mentions go to Heidi Barclay, Sarah, Webfrau and Rachel Ravenswood whose LO's really stood out....but this week I really loved the hole punched circle of Denise's LO, with the stitching (or is it doodling?) making a circle too. Plus the big buttons and torn paper. Awesome.

Denise we'd love to invite you to be our guest designer for a dare coming up. Can you please get in touch with Lianne at to arrange this. Thanks!
Thanks to everyone who entered this dare! Hang out for our next dare tomorrow night. I think you're gonna love it! Its something I always put off doing and know I'm going to make a special effort this time around!

Dare number 45

Wow, I just can't believe how quickly these dares keep rolling around! We're up to number 45 already!
This week we're making it a little easier for you. Well sort of. Depends on whether you like sketches or not?
If you do, you're going to love this dare. Its to create your own LO based on this sketch:
Yep, gotta love a LO with a circle, lots of pictures and journaling! Can't wait to see your interpretations of it.
(sketch designed by Trina McClune)

Gwendolyn is our guest designer this week and here is her wonderful LO. As Gwendolyns journaling is Dutch, she has interpreted it for us:

"This LO is about "bevrijdingsfestival" (= dutch word). It is the day on which Holland celebrate our freedom. In 1940 Holland got involved in the second world war by the invasion of the Germans. On the 5th of may 1945 Holland was liberated by the allied. And nowadays we have music festival that day on which we celebrate that we can live in freedom"

Don't ya love the way she has used the Queen and Co felt flowers for her circle? Very clever! I'm also loving how Gwendolyn has swapped the photo composition around. That's the beauty of a sketch, you can take any part of it and use it for your inspiration.

So we'd love to see what you come up with...... Give it a go.
Post a link to your layout in the comments when you're done or send it via email to Lianne at

And hey, just for that extra bit of motivation.....check out who our sponsor is this fortnight?! Queen and Co. Thanks so much Queen and Co! We know our winner is going to love your parcel!
The dare deadline is Wednesday 21st May 6pm.

And here are some more LO's to be inspired by:
Trina's - I've taken the opportunity to do one about the twins first birthday party with our twin antenatal group. 12 1 year olds! LOL.

Sharon: Lesley

I created the scalloped circle by using a paper doiley as a template / mask and spraying with walnut ink.

Donna Vickys

Monique's - I created a 'mini' version of the sketch, interpreting it into a 6x12 format.
